The parish church is that serving a specific permanent community of worshippers in a diocese, whose pastoral care is entrusted by the diocesan bishop to a priest. Only the diocesan bishop may create, suppress or alter parishes, with the advice of the presbyteral council. The legitimately established parish is a legal entity in canon law.
